Mathews-Palmer Playground Mural & Arts Program
The Mathews-Palmer Playground 45th - 46th Street neighborhood community and mural artist Denise Gieseke Penizzotto have joined together in an effort to save the historical mural "Against Domestic Colonialism" painted by muralist Arnold Belkin.
Artist and muralist Arnold Belkin, NYC resident during the city's tumultuous 1970s, gathered a distraught and underserved community together to create a mural that spoke of the difficulties of the times. Titled "Against Domestic Colonialism" with the message to the city, "We the People Demand Control of our Communities".
Over the past 40 years the mural has fallen into a state of disrepair. The mural, with a message still relevant to our communities today, is now in need of a complete wall repair prior to painting a recreation of the beloved mural. With your help the community is raising funds to bring this mural back to life.
